Done by
SwiftBrick’s own team; excavation and concrete pour by the client; timber frame by the frame contractor.

We supported the client from the pre-planning stage with costs for the groundworks and superstructure, then built the foundations once their excavation and concrete pour were complete. On a brownfield site prone to settlement we recommended hangers for the drainage rather than relying on the ground, and the floor was built as beam and block with a radon barrier, insulation, damp-proof membrane and concrete slab. We left site for the timber-frame erection and came back for the masonry.

Stage 1 of 4

Foundations, drainage and the beam-and-block floor

Foundations built up off the client’s concrete, internal drainage installed and hung, cavity filled and backfilled inside and out, scaffold base prepared, then the precast beams and infill blocks laid for the ground floor.

Stage 2 of 4

Radon barrier, insulation and slab

Radon barrier lapped and sealed around every service penetration, insulation laid, damp-proof membrane and the concrete slab poured.

Stage 3 of 4

External masonry

With the timber frame up, the outer skin: Beckstone on three elevations with quoins at the corners, London Brick to the rear, fire stops to the manufacturer’s specification.

Stage 4 of 4

Finished

The completed pair in January 2025, in stone that sits with the older houses along London Road.

The result

Two houses that look like they belong on the road

From foundations and floors to the last course of stone, the structural and masonry work on a pair of new homes delivered for a small developer — proof that SwiftBrick builds complete houses, not just extensions.
